The key facts
- The presentation of the new Roadster is scheduled for October 15, originally October 1; the rescheduling was attributed to weather
- The second generation was shown in 2017: 0–97 km/h in 1.9 seconds, top speed over 400 km/h, range up to 998 km — figures not confirmed for the production version
- A version with SpaceX technology (gas thrusters) is possible; details not confirmed
A presentation after nearly nine years of waiting
Tesla (USA) will present the new generation of the electric sports car Roadster on October 15. The presentation will take place almost nine years after the model's first showing, whose production was originally planned to begin back in 2020. Tesla announced the upcoming event on social media.
The claimed 2017 specifications remain unconfirmed
The second-generation Roadster was first shown in November 2017. At the time, Tesla reported that the car accelerates to 97 km/h in 1.9 seconds, can travel at speeds of more than 400 km/h, and can cover up to 998 km on a single charge. These figures applied to the initially announced version and have not yet been confirmed for the production car.
A possible SpaceX version
One of the project's features may be a special version with SpaceX technology. Earlier, Tesla head Elon Musk mentioned the possibility of using small gas thrusters that are supposed to give the car extraordinary capabilities. The presentation is expected to go beyond an ordinary car show, but the exact specifications and capabilities of such a version still have to be officially confirmed.
Rescheduling and open questions
Preparations for the presentation dragged on due to a rescheduling: the event was originally planned for October 1, but Tesla postponed it to October 15, citing an unfavorable weather forecast and explaining that the show could only be held outdoors. Despite years of waiting, questions about the timing of the start of production and deliveries to customers remain open. The upcoming presentation will be an important test of how far the project, first shown to the public in 2017, has progressed, and the very fact that it is being held does not mean that mass production will begin soon.
