What Apple unveiled

Apple showed the Home Collection of smart home devices. It includes security cameras, a smart video doorbell, an electronic lock, a thermostat, and temperature sensors. All devices can be set up via iPhone and controlled using the Home app or Siri. According to the company's concept, the accessories are designed in a unified minimalist style, support Thread technology for a stable connection, and can work both individually and together. For example, when the last person leaves the house, the system automatically locks the door, turns on the cameras, and adjusts the temperature, and before the owner returns, it prepares the home and unlocks the door as they approach.

Partnership with LG and Schneider Electric

According to Apple's vice president of hardware engineering Matthew Costello, the company created the devices in close collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric so that each device works seamlessly with Apple Home. He noted that the collection makes it easy to choose smart home accessories and provides simple, reliable, and private control.

Cameras and recording storage

The security camera system is handled by LG, which developed four devices with 2.5K resolution. The cameras recognize people, pets, vehicles, and packages. Event recordings are stored in the iCloud+ service for 10 days; a separate cloud subscription for the cameras is not required. With the appropriate plan, Apple Intelligence automatically describes events in the video as text and allows finding the needed fragments via ordinary text queries. The lineup includes the LG Video Doorbell with two cameras for watching guests and packages, the outdoor Floodlight Cam with two floodlights that turn on when motion is detected, the compact Outdoor Cam with color night recording, as well as the Indoor Cam: when a household member returns home, its lens automatically rises to monitor the room and then lowers and stops recording. The cameras are equipped with internal memory that allows recording to continue when Wi-Fi is disconnected.

Electronic lock

Another novelty is the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock electronic lock. Thanks to Ultra Wideband technology, it recognizes the owner's approach and automatically opens the door if they have an iPhone or Apple Watch with a digital key. Also available are unlocking by touching a phone or watch, PIN code entry, and a hidden slot for a regular key. The lock logs door openings and break-in attempts, and guests can be granted temporary access via the Home app.
