The key facts
- Bonya called Louis Vuitton and Chanel 'brands for bums' in a video on her YouTube channel
- At the same time, she noted that Louis Vuitton makes quality clothing, while Chanel makes poor-quality clothing
- Earlier she claimed earnings of 20–30 million rubles a month and expenses of €150–180 thousand
The blogger's statement
Blogger and TV presenter Victoria Bonya posted a dialogue with her daughter Angelina on her YouTube channel in which she criticized fashion brands. She complained that she had started spending money again on 'brands for bums', placing Louis Vuitton and Chanel in that category. 'Louis Vuitton is a brand for the poor and bums: when a person gets a little money, he buys Louis Vuitton, and with his last penny at that,' she was quoted as saying by Gazeta.Ru.
A contradictory assessment of the brands
Despite the harsh characterization, Bonya clarified that Louis Vuitton makes quality clothing, while Chanel, in her opinion, makes poor-quality clothing. Thus, her criticism was aimed more at the brands' audience than at the quality of their products.
Context of earlier statements
This is not the blogger's first loud statement about her finances. In September she reported earnings of 20–30 million rubles a month. OKB News published a video in which Bonya spoke about spending of about €150–180 thousand (roughly 14.3–17 million rubles) on herself and her daughter. When a caption to the video appeared saying she was looking for a husband 'with an income of 13 million rubles', Bonya clarified in the comments that it was about expenses, not income. Gazeta.Ru also recalls her recent advice to whisper 'I love you' to trees.
