The Essence of the Case

In the Jambay District of the Samarkand region, a court has passed a sentence on the 39-year-old head of the district department of ecology and environmental protection (referred to as J.R. in the case materials). According to the verdict, he demanded an all-in-one computer worth 11 million soums in exchange for not taking measures regarding the felling of about 100 poplars in the Zarafshan mahalla, as well as for assisting in the removal of a truck from the impound lot. This was reported by Kun.uz citing the court document.

Chronology According to the Defendant

According to the defendant's testimony in court, on June 24, 2026, while returning from home, he saw several unfamiliar people on Gallakapa Street in the Jambay District felling poplars. He approached, took documents from the truck owner, had the vehicle taken to the impound lot, and drew up a protocol on the felling of trees. On June 25, a district resident came to him, saying that the people felling the trees were his acquaintances, and offered 300 dollars for the return of the truck from the impound lot. According to the defendant, he refused the money and asked for an all-in-one computer instead, explaining that he needed it for his office, after which he promised to help with the return of the vehicle. He also stated that he did not promise to reduce the fine.

Detention and Verdict

On June 26, J.R. was detained during an operation in his office at the moment of receiving the all-in-one computer as a bribe. In court, he pleaded guilty and explained that he asked for the computer because he needed it for work. The Jambay District Court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code (taking a bribe) and sentenced him to 5 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold positions in state organizations involving material responsibility for a period of 2 years.
