The key facts
- KPRF deputies (Kolomeytsev, Kurinny, Drobot, Kamnev) and senator Airat Gibatdinov proposed transferring confiscated cars to budget-funded institutions
- The appeal was sent to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Gazeta.Ru reports
- The initiative concerns only cars already transferred to the state; a similar mechanism exists for the needs of the SVO
The essence of the initiative
Cars confiscated by court ruling may begin to be transferred free of charge to Russian hospitals, schools and other budget-funded institutions. The initiative was put forward by KPRF deputies, who sent the relevant proposal to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. This was reported by Gazeta.Ru, which obtained the document.
The authors' arguments
The authors of the idea believe that seized cars could bring more benefit if used for the everyday needs of state and municipal organizations. Such assistance may be especially relevant for regions where local budgets lack funds to renew their vehicle fleets. “Hospitals, polyclinics, schools and kindergartens need transport. And the state has confiscated cars that could bring real benefit to people,” explained one of the initiators, senator Airat Gibatdinov.
Who would receive the cars
In addition to medical and educational organizations, the deputies propose directing cars to social welfare, culture and sports institutions. In the parliamentarians' view, this would reduce spending on transport purchases and spare the state part of the costs of storing and selling confiscated property.
Scope of the proposal and its authors
The proposal does not concern new grounds for seizing cars from Russians. As Gibatdinov clarified, it applies exclusively to cars that have already become state property under court rulings. A similar mechanism is currently in effect for transferring vehicles for the needs of the special military operation. The initiative was prepared by deputies Nikolai Kolomeytsev, Alexei Kurinny, Maria Drobot and Georgy Kamnev together with senator Airat Gibatdinov.
