New Tashkent Model to Be Shown for the First Time
From October 26 to November 1, 2026, Tashkent will host Tashkent Design Week — an international platform bringing together architects, designers, urbanists, business representatives and creative industries to discuss the future of the urban environment. UzNews.uz was informed about this by the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art. The central theme of the week will be the development of New Tashkent and the role of design in shaping a modern city. One of the central events will be the first public presentation of the New Tashkent model in the atrium of Tashkent City Mall; the exhibition will be designed in a specially developed scenography by Koç Construction. The foundation emphasized that the presentation of the model will become a starting point for a professional conversation about the principles of shaping a modern city: climate-adapted architecture, the use of local materials, cultural context, and the balance between the scale of urban transformation and the quality of everyday life.
Program and Participants
The program will combine two directions: the design of a new urban environment and the study of global design experience — from object and furniture design to public spaces and city design codes. The professional dialogue will be devoted to sustainable development, urban identity, design education, and the interaction of business, architecture and public interests. Panel sessions and presentations will take place from October 27 to 29 at the Design Atrium in Tashkent City Mall with the participation of the educational partner Central Asian University (CAU). Among the expected participants are the head of the German bureau ATELIER BRÜCKNER, which is working on the project of the National Museum of Uzbekistan based on the architectural concept by Tadao Ando, as well as the lead designer of New Tashkent and a representative of the company Cross Works, who will present the work on the general plan of the new city. The discussions will also include the advisor to the head of the New Tashkent Directorate, an architect from ARC Architects, the founder of SAD Studio, the bureau Lyudi Architects and others.
Exhibition and Results of the First Season
The program will also include public discussions, an exhibition of object design, student architecture projects and city activations. The object exhibition will bring together furniture, interior items and other works by local and international designers, where traditional craft practices and materials have received a new interpretation. Among the exhibits are an experimental chair by Zhenya Kim, founder of the J-Kim brand, furniture by Spanish designer Marivi Bombarelli, and tables by the international studio Design 49 by Igor Lipkin. According to the foundation, the first season of Tashkent Design Week brought together more than 1,000 visitors, over 30 events, 20 presentations and 41 speakers; the events took place at more than 20 venues across the city, and the digital reach of the project exceeded 6 million people.
