Diary of an eight-day crossing

A resident of Kyiv, who left Ukraine to avoid mobilization, has published a diary of his eight-day crossing of the Carpathians to Romania. The details of the story are reported by KP.ru. The man set off for the Romanian border at the end of August together with two friends. According to him, the decision was preceded by a hard winter, when the lack of electricity, water, heating, and work made everyday life unbearable.

Hardships in the mountains

In his diary, the Kyiv resident described how the travelers had to walk in pouring rain, sleep on wet ground, and skirt possible border patrols. At one point, the men got lost among swamps, and the constant cold and exhaustion made them doubt they would be able to complete the crossing.

Arrival in Romania and what followed

Despite the hardships, on the morning of September 5 the fugitives reached Romania. Local residents called the police, after which the Ukrainians were taken to a police station. According to the publication, the next day the man, whom the article calls Stas, received temporary protection documents. Later, his girlfriend, to whom he had proposed, came to join him. Together they left for Portugal, where they hope to start a new life.

Earlier reports of an escape from barracks

Life.ru previously reported on this Ukrainian's escape from mobilization across the Carpathians to Romania. According to him, after being detained by employees of the Territorial Recruitment Center (TCK), he managed to get out of the military barracks in Lviv and then decided to leave the country for good. When crossing the border, he had to get over a barbed-wire fence. Already in Romania, he received temporary protection thanks to a document on removal from military registration from the 'Rezerv+' app.
