Power outages due to severe weather
Severe weather on Tuesday left 7,200 consumers without electricity in southern France, Franceinfo reported, citing the power grid operator Enedis. Most of the outages occurred in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard. The figure was recorded as of 5:00 PM local time (3:00 PM GMT) and does not include Corsica, whose power grid is not managed by Enedis.
Flooding and closed roads
Heavy rainfall led to flooding in parts of the departments of Gard and Hérault, complicated road traffic and forced the closure of sections of the A9 motorway. In Lunel, in the department of Hérault, several streets were flooded, and rescue services carried out work to move residents to safe places. Authorities also reported closed roads in the department of Gard, where rising water affected roads and bridges.
Warnings remain in force
The severe weather followed heavy rains that began on Monday and continued into Tuesday. In parts of the region, weather and flood warnings remained in effect.
