- Dortmund are top, but Bayern could overtake them in the evening by beating Leipzig.
- Borussia's Karetsas has a serious ankle injury; Stuttgart lost 0:1 to Hamburg before the Atlético match.
Dortmund top again, but not for long
Borussia Dortmund returned to the top of the Bundesliga table despite drawing 0:0 away at Union Berlin on Saturday. The match was short on chances; eleven minutes from the end Serhou Guirassy missed the chance to win it, heading just wide of the post. According to AFP, it was the first draw between the teams in history: all of the previous 16 meetings had produced a winner.
Bayern could overtake
In Saturday's evening match, Bayern host RB Leipzig and will overtake Dortmund with a win. After a powerful start to the season — six straight wins in all competitions — Borussia have slowed down: two draws and a defeat in their last three matches.
Karetsas injury
An additional problem for Dortmund is what appears to be a serious ankle injury to midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas. He was carried off on a stretcher just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Stuttgart lose before the Atlético match
Stuttgart, three days before their home Champions League match against Atlético Madrid (on Tuesday), lost 0:1 to Hamburg — Miro Muheim scored the goal in the 88th minute. In the Bundesliga the team are 13th (two wins, four defeats), but in the Champions League after two matchdays they sit fourth among the 36 clubs.
Other matches
Top-flight newcomers Elversberg continued their successful debut season, beating Augsburg 4:3 at home — Lukas Petkov, Lasse Günther, Maximilian Rohr and Frederik Schmaltz got the goals. The club from the smallest town ever to host a Bundesliga team moved up to sixth place. Niclas Füllkrug scored in a fifth consecutive Bundesliga match: his brace helped Werder Bremen come back from 0:2 in their home game against Paderborn (2:2). The Germany international forward, back at Bremen on loan after an unsuccessful spell at West Ham, now has seven goals in seven matches in all competitions. Mainz, thanks to a goal by Philipp Tietz, beat Schalke 1:0 away and moved up to fifth place.
