EU lifts anti-corruption restrictions on Hungary, unfreezing €4.2 billion
The EU Council terminated the budgetary conditionality mechanism introduced in 2022 under Viktor Orbán's government. The decision unfreezes €4.2 billion and restores Hungary's access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe. After the victory of Péter Magyar's Tisza party, an agreement was reached to unlock a total of €16.4 billion in exchange for reforms.
